Walker County Emergency Services personnel joined with Georgia State Patrol troopers during a Safe Kids Walker County safety check and properly adjusted child safety seats during five checkpoint locations this week.

“We want your kid to leave here safer than when they arrived,” WCES captain Traci Napier Reece said.

Eighty three percent of child safety seats that have been inspected were installed wrong by parents, based on six years of data collected during checks in Walker County.

The personnel are at LaFayette WalMart parking lot on through 6 p.m. today (Sept. 21) and will be at Jackson Chevrolet on Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A $20 donation is suggested if the child seat needs to be exchanged. The team purchases the seats from WalMart for $40.

Parents may also have their child’s seat inspected by appointment at the Georgia State Patrol headquarters in LaFayette, WCES headquarters, or at fire station No. 1 in Rock Spring.
