He said if elected he will uphold the integrity of the office, work towards a government that is responsive to the needs and desires of the people and hold court “that is within the law, not making up rules or ignoring the law as written.”
A former chairman of the 9th Congressional District Republican Party and former state chairman of the Georgia Federation of Young Republican Clubs, Grammer has held various offices in the Walker County Republican Party, most recently serving as first vice-chairman.
Grammer said “open and honest government” is the issue he sees as most pressing, adding that he will work to inform voters of the importance of having “a will and directives in case they can’t make decisions for themselves.”
“I would serve the entire county, not just LaFayette. We need open and honest government at all levels,” Grammer said. “In some areas, we do very well. In others, such as some things on a federal level, we don’t do as well as we should.
He said the learning curve will be his chief obstacle if elected, “however, common sense and following the law as written will go a long way toward getting started in the right direction.”
He would also like to see vital records available online for people searching for information.
“People shouldn’t have to drive to LaFayette to find something that should be online,” Grammer said. “It has been suggested to open the office at least one Saturday a month. I like that idea, but it will require a change in the law.”
“If elected, I’m going to review the way the office operates and see if there are ways to save the taxpayers money,” he said. “A fresh perspective sometimes finds things that are hard to find by people who have been doing things a certain way for a long time.”
A Rock Spring resident for about 35 years, he is a graduate of LaFayette High School and earned a degree in economics from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He also attended Berry College and Dalton State College.
Grammer started a screen printing company in college with seven fraternity brothers and sold his share of the business for a profit. He worked a decade in the mortgage industry as a loan originator and company owner, then worked another decade in the auto industry, sales, finance and internet sales. He also served as office manager for Grammer Construction Co., where he said also “worked with his hands out in the field.”
Grammer is a former chapter leader of the Chattanooga Guardian Angels and attends Peavine Baptist Church.
