COMMUNITY · Judge-elect Billy Mullinax will be sworn in at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the main courtroom at the Walker County Courthouse in LaFayette. Walker County Judge Donny Peppers will officiate the swearing-in.

COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will close the following monuments for the winter season: Wilder Brigade Monument, the Highway 27 picnic area, the Sanders picnic area and the Signal Point restrooms. COMMUNITY · Starting Jan. 1, 2013, Georgia Farmers will need to apply and obtain a GATE (Georgia Agriculture Exemption Card) from the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture. This is the result of HB 386 which was passed this year by the legislature which allows Georgia farmers to take advantage of additional sales tax exemptions. If you are a farm producer with $ 2,500 in Ag income, you need to prepare to obtain a GATE card. ENTERTAINMENT · Celebrate Discovery Day on Sunday, Dec. 30, at Ruby Falls. Dec. 30 marks the 84th anniversary of the discovery of Ruby Falls. The first 84 visitors get in for the original ticket price of only $2. There will be 84 candles lit in honor of this anniversary. All guests will receive a vintage style postcard.
