Family members of a young Gordon County boy who was found in a pond near his home Monday night, said he is still on a respirator at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.

The boy, who has been identified by family members as Nicholas Holbert, 21-months, went missing from his home on Shaw Road in the Scottsville community Monday evening and was found in a small farm pond in a pasture adjoining the home later that night.

He is the son of Russell and Sarah Holbert, according to family members.

According to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office:

Nicholas was given CPR by emergency personnel at the scene and transported to Gordon Hospital.

He was taken later that night by helicopter to Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta, where he is believed to be in critical condition.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as an accident.

Sheriff Mitch Ralston said, “our thoughts and prayers are with the child and family.”
