Chickamauga saw higher voter turnout than expected Tuesday, with nearly 33 percent of registered voters casting ballots. A total of 681 voters (72 by absentee ballot) hit the polls out of the 2,087 registered voters.
Chickamauga voters approved the current school board members by re-electing Janet Landers with 490 votes, Daniel “Corky” Jewell with 486 votes and Billy Ellis with 464 votes. Challenger James Tahler received 262 votes.
In the school board special election for the two years remaining of the late Don Littleton’s term, Paul Chambers received 273 votes, edging out David Askew who received 250, while Jim Powell received 125 votes.
Voters re-elected Randal Dalton for his fifth term on the Chickamauga City Council with 397 votes. First-time candidate Evitte Parrish was also elected to the City Council with 400 votes, as well as former councilman James Staub, who received 364 votes.
“I look forward to working with Evitte and James, and am glad the people continue to have confidence in me,” Dalton said.
Parrish admitted to being nervous all day long on election day. “I plan to do my part to help keep the city moving in the right direction,” Parrish said.
Juanita Crowder was unopposed and maintained her position as city recorder with 552 votes.
