The LaFayette Police Department is offering an important service to senior citizens, a service that had been discontinued by a previous administration.

Daily telephone checks for the elderly and disabled citizens are an important community service that has recently been re-instituted by LaFayette public safety director Benji Clift.

An Oct. 9 burglary attempt of an elderly woman on Glenn Street prompted the idea to revive the service.

Family members may call captain Stacey Meeks to place family members on the list.

Each person will be called daily. In the event a person does not answer, an officer will be sent to the residence to establish contact.

Residents interested in being added to the list should call captain Meeks at 706-639-1540.
