LaFayette, Gordon Lee roll in NGAC softball tournament openers

The two top-seeded teams in the North Georgia Athletic Conference softball tournament had no trouble in their opening round games on Wednesday.

No. 1-seeded LaFayette got a no-hitter from Jade Maggard and beat Rossville, 15-0. Maggard also went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored twice.

Shayla Ludy continued her torrid pace at the plate with four hits, including a triple, to go with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base. McKenzie Hogue was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Shayla Youngblood and Madison Harris each had a hit and drove in two.

Katie Cook and Kayleigh Goff scored two runs each, Kiki Evans scored twice and drove in two, Raleigh Lewis scored once, and Liindsey Shephard collected one RBI.

It was the eighth straight win for the Lady Ramblers (16-5), who will host the winner of Thursday's game between No. 4 Heritage and No. 5 Lakeview in a Friday semifinal.

No. 2 Gordon Lee also made it eight straight wins with a 12-0 victory over Dade County.

Canaan Burnett had a double and a triple for the Lady Trojans and picked up the win in the circle.

Gordon Lee (14-3) will host the other semifinal on Friday against the winner of Thursday's game between No. 3 Ringgold and No. 6 Chattanooga Valley.

The schedule for the tournament finals has yet to be determined.
