Dear editor:
It’s time the people of this country were not only heard, but more importantly, listened to. Our politicians from local, state and federal levels have lost sight of the fact that they work for us, not the other way around. The folks up in Washington are spending our money without asking us if we want to buy what they’re selling.
This administration told us over and over that they would not tax the middle class. What a joke. There have been massive tax increases on ammunition and tobacco, to mention a couple, and if the carbon tax goes through, our electric bills will skyrocket. The largest group of consumers for ammunition, tobacco and electric, other than businesses, are the middle-class citizens.
Let your voice be heard. Join us on May 18 at the National Farrier Research Center, 14013 Ga. 136 (1.8 miles past Villanow), (706) 397-8047. More information is available at www.nwgeorgiateaparty.com or www.teapartyday.com or www.reteaparty.com.

You can control the amount of tax you are assessed on each of those items, or even eliminate or elect to not pay many of the taxes on such items.
I don't drink alcohol. I can quit smoking. I don't feel the need to stock ammunition for any reason. I can control the use of electricity in my home. I'd much rather be taxed that way, than on what I do or can earn in income.
When politicians speak of taxes, they are usually referring to income taxes, which are the most regressive of all taxes assessed Americans each and every year.
Think about it...if we were only taxed when we spend our money for something, we are then able to control what we pay in taxes to the Government.
President Obama promised to not increase income taxes on those below $250,000 a year. I have seen nothing to suggest that he intends to go back on that promise.
If people want to effect a change in the way we are taxes, there are far more promising proposals that have been offered that do far more to reduce the tax bite on those of us who are achievers.
Google the phrase "Fair Tax" to learn a little.
