David William Colbert, 69, Rossville

David William Colbert of Rossville died Sunday, October 28, 2012. He was 69.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Colbert, and brother, Eugene Colbert.

Survivors include his daughters, Deanna Swinford of LaFayette, Donna Fincher of Alaska; sister, Gloria Ann Young of Rock Spring; brothers, Earnest Colbert of Ringgold, Donnie Colbert of Tunnel Hill, Ralph Colbert of Ringgold, Rickey Colbert of LaFayette; grandchildren, Logan, Isaac, and Jacop Colbert; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service: Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. Service conducted by Rev. Henry Hampton. Burial: Chattanooga National Cemetery. Visitation: Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.

William Larry Kimble, 73, LaFayette

William Larry Kimble of LaFayette died Sunday, October 28, 2012. He was 73.

Survivors include his friend, Sharon Carroll of LaFayette; daughters, Sharon McDonald of East Ridge, Rhonda Smith of Dalton; son, Alex Kimble of LaFayette; sister, Gail (Fred) Lowe of LaFayette; brother Garry (Edna) Kimble of Pigeon Forge; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Susie Mae Adams, 91, Rossville

Susie Mae Adams of Rossville died Sunday, October 27, 2012. She was 91.

She lived most of her life in the Chattanooga, Rossville area and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for over 30 years. She worked at Chattanooga State Community College and Loveman's Departments store. She enjoyed arranging flowers in her free time.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Adams.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlene (Jim) Cooper of Rossville; son, Larry Adams of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Marie C. Adams of Chattanooga; brother, Kenneth Skelf (Rossville); grandchildren, Carol (Clay) Smith of Ackworth, Valerie (Chris) Presley of Chattanooga, Sarah (Bob) Gibbons of Apollo Beach, Fla., Lebron (Janice) Cooper of Lafayette; and great-grandchildren, Mark Ravens, Hunter Cooper, Logan and Evan Gibbons.

W. Charles Harris, 78, Chattanooga

W. Charles Harris of Chattanooga died Saturday, October 24, 2012, in a local nursing home. He was 78.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, and was of the Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Marie Harris.

Survivors include his two sons, Steve (Nancy) Harris of Chattanooga, and Kevin (Shari) Harris of Apison; and a brother, Lamar (Sandra) Harris of Fort Oglethorpe; and a sister, Shirley (Robert) King of Calhoun.

Frances Alene Crawford of Fort Oglethorpe died Monday, October 29, 2012, in a local hospital. She was 90.

She was a lifelong resident of north Georgia and a member of the Rossville First Nazarene Church. She had owned and operated Crawford Casual Wear for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. Crawford; brothers, Bill and Charlie Harris; father, Robert Harris; and grandson, Jeff Sherrill.

Dennis Eugene York, 55, LaFayette

Dennis Eugene York of LaFayette died Sunday, October 28, 2012. He was 55.

He was a Jehovah’s Witness, and attended the Mountain Cove congregation of Jehovah’s Witness. He enjoyed ministering to others, and playing golf. He also loved his pet dog, Houston. He was loved and liked by everyone.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Logan Dunn.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Blaylock York; father, Eugene York; step-father, Bill Dunn, both of LaFayette; daughter, Miranda and husband, Jason Clark of Chickamauga; son, Chad York of Dalton; sisters, Becky and husband, Jim Clark, and Kathy Harris, all of LaFayette, and Annette Champion of Dalton; grandchild, Sydney Clark; several nieces and nephews also survive. Special thanks to nurse Betty, and nurse Dru Gibson of Amedisys Hospice of Dalton.

Ronald Brian Burgess of Ringgold died on Saturday, October 27, 2012. He was 56.

He was the son of the late Ross and Phyllis Burgess. He was employed with Roper Corporation in LaFayette as the IT Manager and loved to play golf.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Michael and Wayne Burgess.

Anthony Ingram of LaFayette died October 25, 2012, at his home. He was 52.

J. Helen Puryear Kilgore of Chickamauga died Thursday, October 25, 2012. She was 74.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Kilgore.

Survivors include her sons, David Puryear of Rossville, Greg Fry of Chickamauga; sister, Bessie Filyaw of Ringgold; brothers, Ed Puryear of Chickamauga, and Danny Puryear of Ringgold; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Sarah Day Littlejohn, 90, LaFayette

Mrs. Sarah Day Littlejohn of Lafayette died Friday, October 26, 2012, at her residence. She was 90.

She was born in Trion on August 14, 1922, daughter of the late William G. Day and Ethel L. Harris Day. She was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with E.T. Barwick Mills, Ponderosa Plant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie O. Littlejohn; brothers, Buddy Day and Junior Day; and sisters, Helen Day Durham and Joyce Patterson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles M. and Marjorie Littlejohn of Lafayette; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Roy Brown of Trion and Debbie and Gary Cordell of Lafayette; brothers, Richard Day of Niota, Tenn., and Howard Ray Day of Lafayette; sisters, Jimmie Clark of Ashville, N.C. and Faye Collins of Valley Head, Ala.; nine grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and neph-ews.

Marilyn Gail Morgan of Rossville died Saturday, October 20, 2012. She was 55.

She was born to the late Shirley Ann Trammell and Ferrell Nicholson in Atlanta on March 18, 1957. She was of the Baptist faith and worked as an LPN at CCA Silverdale for many years.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Morgan and brother, Verlin Dale Nicholson.

Survivors include three children, Michael Trammell of Calhoun, Johnny Elrod of Rossville and Alisha Elrod of Roanoke, Va., brother, Gary Jarrett of Calhoun; five grandchildren, Cody and Matthew Trammell, Dustin Elrod, Kenny and Christopher Gann and great-granddaughter, Cayleigh Kalisha Gann.

David Craig Cummings of Lookout Valley died Tuesday, October 23, 2012. He was 62.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was of the Baptist faith. He was an appliance technician for Martin Service Company for more than 36 years and then retired from Chattanooga Appliance after more than seven years of service. He always took pride in his work and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Cummings; mother, Grace White; brother, Danny Cummings and step-father, Harold White.

William Judson Hall, Jr., 50, Chickamauga

William Judson “Billy” Hall, Jr., of Chickamauga died Thursday, October 18, 2012. He was 50.

He was a lifelong resident of the north Georgia area and was of the Baptist faith. He was previously employed as a mechanic with Firestone in Hixson for more than 20 years and was a devoted son and brother who will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR, Atlanta Braves baseball and Georgia Bulldog’s football.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hall, Sr., and sister, Loretta Hall.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Hall; brother, Wayne Levi Hall, both of Chickamauga; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Grace and (Daniel) Gibson of Ringgold; three nieces, Christina Hall, Ava Gibson and Halle Gibson; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Joe Arrington, 46, Hixson

Joe Arrington of Hixson died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at his residence. He was 46.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and north Georgia area where he was a self employed general contractor. His passions in life were his family, golfing, boating, camping and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joe and Billie Rae Arrington.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Arrington; six children, Christy Elizabeth Arrington, Crystal Ann Arrington, Cathy Jo Lynn Arrington, Erica Brooke Arrington, Seanna Marie Arrington, Shyleigh Jo Arrington; two brothers, Jeff Arrington and Barry Vickers; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

James Harlin Hamill, 84, Ringgold

James Harlin Hamill of Ringgold died Saturday, October 20, 2012. He was 84.

A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, he was of the Christian faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the VFW, former owner and operator of Hamill’s Garage and was a former employee of the Catoosa County Board of Education where he worked for 16 years as a bus mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl and Mary Della Vaughn Hamill and grandson, Miles Berube.

Survivors include his three children, Mike (Joy) Hamill of Ringgold, Susan (Pernell) Latham of Cleveland, Tenn., and Candy (Nathan) Guerrero of Ringgold; one granddaughter, seven grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

William P. Baker, 83, LaFayette

William P. “Bill” Baker of LaFayette died Saturday, October 20, 2012, after a long term illness. He was 83.

“He took him by the hand and led him to the promised land.”

He was a United States Marine from 1944-1948, a Mason and Shriner and a member of the American Legion and very well known in the automobile business. He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church in LaFayette. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Perry and Gladys Baker and sister, Adelia Ann Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Doris H. Baker; three children, Billie Baker, Jana (Ronny) Heiskell, and Thomas “Tom” Baker; one sister, Mary (Wayne) Goodwill; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many friends.

Cynthia LaNell Compton Fendley of Chickamauga died in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Saturday, October 20, 2012. She was 54.

She was born in Nashville, Tenn., and had resided in Pascagoula for the last three years. She was a former resident of Mobile, Ala., prior to Pascagoula. She was of the Church of Christ faith and she loved spending time with her animals. She was preceded in death by her father, Hollis (The Krispy Kreme Donut Man) Lionel Compton and her grandmother, Eretta Shaver.

Mickey Lowry of LaFayette died Thursday October 11, 2012. He was 84.

He was an electrical engineer and worked for W L F A for 35 years. He loved flying air planes in air shows.

Survivors include his daughter, Suzy Lowry of LaFayette; several nieces and nephews also survived.

Memorial service: Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Service conducted by Rev. Queon Smith. Visitation: Wednesday Oct. 24, from 5-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dennis D. Dinsmoor, 71, Rossville

Dennis D. Dinsmoor of Rossville died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at his home. He was 71.

He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, puzzles and Bible reading. He was a devoted family man and loved his wife, daughter and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Dinsmoor.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Lee Dinsmoor; daughter, Jody Lynn (Aaron) McNabb; granddaughters, Ally Carrollynn Frady and Emilee Hope Frady; sister, Myrna Ganrude; brother, Pete Dinsmoor and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services: Friday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Ridgedale Baptist Church. Visitation: Friday from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church.

Angela Michelle Edmond Clift, 42, Rossville

Angela “Angie” Michelle Edmond Clift of Rossville died Thursday, October 11, 2012. She was 42.

She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. on July 13, 1970, and was a member of East Ridge Church of the Nazarene. She was a devoted Christian and loving mother.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn J. Edmond; husband, Ray Clift; and son, Corey Lee Clift.

Survivors include her father, Robert Edmond; daughter, Amber Clift; sister, Donna Harmon, all of Rossville; niece, Tiffany Harmon; nephews, Dustin Harmon, Wayne, Jacob and Zachary Hobby; mother-in-law, Wilma Jean Finney; grand-children, Skyla Harmon and Chloe Wooten, and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: Thursday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles Knight officiating. Burial: Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. Visitation: Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maebell York Pilgrim, 92, LaFayette

Maebell York Pilgrim of LaFayette died Sunday, October 14, 2012, in Dahlonega. She was 92.

She was born on March 4, 1920, in Chattooga County. She was the seventh of fifteen children born to Arch and Ruth York. She was a retired beautician who owned and operated her own beauty shop for twenty-two years. She loved to sew, make quilts, crochet, cook and work in her flowers, but her passion was bowling. She was able to bowl until the age of 89. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Chickamauga, and a member of the Marthada Chapter of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron in 1973.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Virgil Morris Pilgrim; parents, Arch and Ruth York; brothers, Artie, Dallas (Buddy), Bill, Lonnie, Gordon, Alvin, Roy and Jimmy York; sisters, Virgie Coker, Maggie Brown, Hattie McConnell and Ava York.

Survivors include her sister, Bertha York Lambert of Buford; brother, Gene York of LaFayette; brother-in-law, James (Nancy) Pilgrim of Chickamauga whom she raised, James’ son, Allen (Christy) Pilgrim of Huntsville, Ala., who knew her as “Mamaw” and Allen’s six children; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, special nephew, Tommy Purcell of Jacksonville, Fla., special nephew, Ben Smith of Gainesville; and special friends, Ann Young, Marie Moses, Wayne Camp and Vivian Shaver Compton.

Not only will Maebell be missed by her family and friends but by the residents and staff at Gold City Assisted Living and Gold City Convalescent Home in Dahlonega and Homestead Hospice in Roswell. The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” for their wonderful care, compassion and support.

Funeral services: Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. in the chapel with her nephew, Rev. Terry York officiating. Burial: Crest Lawn Memorial Park, Noble. Visitation: Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 5-7 p.m.

Mary Ellen Allen Casteel, 81, Ringgold

Mary Ellen Alley Casteel of Ringgold died Sunday, October 14, 2012. She was 81.

A native of Etowah, Tenn., she spent most of her life in Atlanta before moving to Blairsville, then settling in Ringgold to live with her daughter eight years ago. She was a member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Casteel and parents, Lester and Ellen Morrow.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Danny) Wilson of Ringgold; son, Michael Casteel of Atlanta; sister, Charlotte Wilkins of Etowah, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jordan Lynn Wilson and Mallory Kaye Wilson, and her best friend, Cody.

Funeral services: Wednesday, Oct. 17, at noon in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Davenport officiating. Burial: Etowah City Cemetery. Visitation: Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday until funeral time at the funeral home.

Joe James Keith, 98, Chattanooga

Joe James Keith of Chattanooga died Sunday, October 14, 2012. He was 98.

He had lived in the Chattanooga area for most of his life and was a very active member and usher at Temple Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He had worked at Keith Grocery store on Rossville Boulevard at a very young age, as well as Combustion Engineering, before retiring from Goodlet’s Food Market in 1984 after many years of service. He also enjoyed gardening and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight sisters; three brothers, and his wife, Eva Lee Keith.

Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo and (Bob) McCoy of Rossville, and Ann and (Jerry) Poe of Spring City, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and (Judy) Keith of Ringgold; six grandchildren and spouses, Robbie and (Kim) McCoy, Michael and (Priscilla) Poe, Kim and (Barry) Avery, Leslie and (Randy) Deits, Kevin and (Cassie) Keith and Tim and (Jennie) Keith; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Shad Smith and Associate Pastor Scott Young officiating. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation: Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
