A Rossville man has been arrested for an aggravated assault incident with a gun that occurred in 2011.

According to Rossville Police Department reports:

Robert Lorinzo Herkley, 28, of West Gordon Avenue was arrested Aug. 3 and is facing two counts of aggravated assault and one felony count of attempted murder for shooting another man. His bond has been set at $75,000.

Rossville police were dispatched to a Davis Street residence at 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2011, for a 911 call of a man with a gunshot wound.

Officer Josh Garrison responded to the call, meeting 51-year-old William Howard Wilson Jr. of Rossville, who had been shot. He had been shot in his left side near the armpit. The bullet exited the man’s body through his back.

It also traveled through a bedroom door and a plaster wall and was later found on the bedroom floor.

Garrison also noticed powder burns on the entry wound, indicating the shooting had happened at close range.

The victim stated he was asleep on the couch when a man knocked on the door. Upon opening the door the victim recognized the person as “LA” and that the gunman said nothing, the victim told police. He said the shooter pointed the gun at the his chest and pulled the trigger.

The gunman was wearing a black hoodie to hide his identity at the time.

The victim yelled out that he was shot and a roommate tried to come to his aid.

The roommate did see the gunman and noticed that he had a “black right eye.”

The roommate then became the target of the gunman, but according to him the gun jammed. They then watched the man run out of the house and toward Gordon Avenue.

Rossville police attempted to make contact with the gunman, but were unsuccessful at the residence that had been identified at the time.

A warrant was issued for Herkley’s arrest shortly after the shoot, but how he was determined to be the gunman will not be revealed until the case is tried in court, according to Rossville public safety director Sid Adams.
