A 14-year-old boy from Rossville was injured Thursday night, Dec. 3, after running into oncoming traffic along James Street.

The incident occurred about 6 p.m. as the boy and two friends were walking east from a gas station along the shoulder of the road on their way to Happy Valley Apartments, where he lives, according to Rossville police chief Sid Adams.

According to the Georgia State Patrol report:

Tanner Hildreth “darted across the roadway and into the path of an eastbound 2005 Ford pickup truck.”

Hildreth and his friends were walking along the shoulder of the road, as there is no sidewalk in the immediate area.

The force of the vehicle threw the boy over a nearby guardrail and down an embankment near a creek.

The driver of the Ford pickup, 56-year-old Elder O’Neal Davis of Chickamauga, stopped immediately and gave first aid to the injured teen, who was described as “non-responsive” by first responders at the scene.

Hildreth was transported to T.C. Thompson Hospital in Chattanooga and does not have life-threatening injuries.

The driver will not be charged in the incident as the teen was found to be at fault.

An updated on the teen’s injuries and condition was immediately available Friday morning.
