COMMUNITY · “Cruise to Break the Cycle,” a benefit car/motorcycle ride for The Family Crisis Center of Walker, Dade, Catoosa and Chattooga counties, will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at Ridgeland High School. COMMUNITY · Memorial Health Care System’s Mobile Health Coach will provide mammogram screenings for women at Wal-Mart in Brainerd on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ladies age 40 and over who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months are eligible with or without insurance by calling the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center at (423) 495-4040. Ladies will need to know their doctor’s first and last name, and those with insurance will need to bring their insurance cards and a photo ID.

COMMUNITY · Cloudland Canyon offers hay rides every Saturday now through Nov. 24. Hot dogs, S'mores, snacks and drinks will be sold. Leashed and licensed pets may also ride. Meet at the Interpretive Center. Rides start on the hour from 2-6 p.m. Park entrance is $5. Hay rides cost $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 4 to 12. The park is off High-way 136 near Trenton.

COMMUNITY · The 33rd annual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, with the marathon and half-marathon races both starting at Barnhardt Circle in Fort Oglethorpe at 7:30 a.m. Packet pickup will be held on Friday, Nov. 9 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe, 2645 Lafayette Road. A photo ID is required for packet pickup and runners may not pick up someone else's packet. A pasta dinner will also be held at the same location on Friday from 5:30-8 p.m. and tickets need to be purchased in advance. There is plenty of free parking for spectators and partipants in the field adjacent to the race start/finish. There will also be a free shuttle service for spectators. The awards ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. for the Half-Marathon and 1 p.m. for the Marathon.

Concessions will include hot mulled cider and cold beer. Guests who bike to the farm will receive two additional tickets at the door. COMMUNITY · The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Catoosa County will hold disaster preparedness and community response training on Nov. 10 and Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Catoosa Fire Station 1 in Ringgold. The CERT classes will help residents correctly respond to natural or man-made disasters such as tornados, hurricanes or chemical spills. ENTERTAINMENT · The city of Ringgold will host a Veteran’s Day celebration featuring the Jericho Brass on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. as part of its annual Fall Festival of Flags. The free event at the Ringgold Depot will feature a patriotic performance by the 28-piece traditional British-style brass band. Frank Hale will direct. The event is sponsored by the Ringgold Downtown Development Authority. Seating is available, but bring a seat cushion.

COMMUNITY · AARP Tax-Aide, a free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers in Walker County to help taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2012 tax returns. Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or a retiree to participate. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers should have some computer experience, such as e-mail and internet browsing. Also needed are volunteers who have management experience. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers receive free IRS-certified tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. COMMUNITY · Dalton State College wil break ground on its new science building Monday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 pm. Construction is expected to take 13 months with faculty occupancy beginning spring of 2014. The first classes will not be before summer 2014.
