COMMUNITY · Tryouts will be held in LaFayette for an all-female football team. The North Georgia Thrashers are a new women’s football team trying to gain approval into the Women’s Football Alliance. All tryouts are at LaFayette High School at 10 a.m. every Saturday in September and the first two Saturdays in October. The team is accepting women of all shapes and sizes and ages 18 and older. COMMUNITY · Walker County Schools’ Smith Planetarium will be open to the public at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7. The planetarium is at 409 Pond Springs Road south of Chickamauga. No admission is charged for public programs. Public programs for October will feature Autumn Star Gazing and new equipment demonstrations. The Smith Planetarium will be open to the public at 2:30 p.m. the first Sunday of each month and at 7:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month.
