COMMUNITY · A stormwater/culvert replacement project currently is in progress in Morris Estates subdivision in Catoosa County. Stanley Drive at Stanley Parkway will be closed for the week of Jan. 7-11 for construction, weather permitting.

COMMUNITY · The LaFayette-Walker County Public Library will have their Ready to Read Story Time on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10:30 a.m. This program prepares children for school with books, songs, games and activities.

COMMUNITY · A breastfeeding class will be offered from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road) in Chattanooga. This class is designed to help participants make an informed choice about breastfeeding. Learn breastfeeding basics, what to expect the first few weeks and special tips for success. Concerns about returning to work/school will also be discussed. This course is coordinated by a board-certified lactation consultant. Registration fee is $30. COMMUNITY · Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 8, the Walker County Health Department will offer several weeknight, weekday and Saturday series of free, basic diabetes education classes. The eight-hour series will be taught by nurse Linda Long. The first classes will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 8, 10, 15, and 17, at the Rossville Civic Center on McFarland Avenue. COMMUNITY · January is National Blood Donor Month and Blood Assurance is asking area residents to add “saving lives” to their New Year’s resolutions. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds. CHURCH · A year-round Parents Day Out program will be offered from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays, at Rock Spring United Methodist Church, 3477 Peavine Road in Rock Spring. Children ages 6 months to 5 years old may participate. Bring your child to socialize and play in a Christian environment. There is no registration fee. COMMUNITY · Overdue fines for items such as audiobooks, e-books, CDs, DVDs and event passes have now increased at PINES libraries around the state. Rates will vary by item. The fine for audiobooks on CD is 20 cents per day; while the fine for videos on DVD is 50 cents per day. The overdue fee for books, which increased on July 1 from 10 cents to 20 cents per day, will remain at that level after Jan. 1. Items checked out before Jan. 1, 2013, will be charged a late fee at the current rate even if they are returned on or after Jan. 1. Items checked out or renewed Jan. 1 or later will be charged the revised per day rate. The PINES software program will automatically apply the amount in effect at the time of checkout. Because a renewal is considered a new checkout, fines for renewals placed on Jan. 1 or after will accrue at the new rate. These overdue fine ncreases are the first made since 1999, according to PINES officials.

COMMUNITY · An Infant CPR Class will be offered from 4-5 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Erlanger Baroness Campus (downtown Chattanooga). This one-hour class teaches basic CPR for an infant (birth to 1 year of age). Class time includes infant safety instructions and hands-on practice of CPR and choking management techniques for an infant.
