COMMUNITY · Lafayette Physical Therapy will be host October Olympics at Gilbert Elementary School, 87 Burnt Mill Road in LaFayette, from 8 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. There will be games, relays and physical activities to address timing, agility, stability, balance, coordination locomotor skills, manipulative skills and fun. These activities are age apporpriate, specifically designed for each age from K-5.

COMMUNITY · The Walker County Health Department offers flu vaccinations to children and adults on a walk-in basis. The department is at 603 Villanow Street in LaFayette. The cost is $20. Cash, check, credit and debit cards, Medicare, Medicaid, PeachCare, Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and state employee United Healthcare and CIGNA insurance are accepted. Walk-in hours are 7:30 a.m.-11 a.m. and 12:30-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 8 a.m.-11 a.m. and 12:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.

GOVERNMENT · The Walker County Development Authority will meet at noon Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Walker County Civic Center in Rock Spring.

COMMUNITY · The Rossville Library will host a preschool Ready to R.E.A.D. Time class at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. The class consists of books, games and crafts. The theme is “Fire, Fire, Fire!” and the kids will visit the fire station.

COMMUNITY · The Walker County Chamber of Commerce will host a political candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Walker County Civic Center in Rock Spring. There will be three local races with opposition in the Nov. 6 general election. Candidates from the following races have been invited to attend: Walker County Sheriff, Georgia House of Representative - District 1, and Walker County Commissioner. Participating candidates will present their responses to questions that have been prepared by the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee. Once each opponent has answered the questions, the candidates will be given a chance for rebuttal.

COMMUNITY · U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-9) announced a series of Catoosa County Days as part of his 9th Congressional District county connection program. A constituent services representative from Graves’ office will be available to meet with local constituents at the County Administrative Building, 800 LaFayette Street, in Ringgold. Staff members are trained to assist Georgians with casework, questions and concerns pertaining to federal programs or policy issues. The remaining meeting day for 2012 is Dec. 4, from 1-3 p.m.

COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will hold a free walking tour at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, led by park historian Jim Ogden. Participants will explore the Civil War Union artillery earthwork complex on the sourthern end of Stringer’s Ridge on Moccasin Bend Road. COMMUNITY · The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will help One Eleven Restaurant and Chattanooga Street Tavern, a new establishment located at 123 North Chattanooga Street, in LaFayette, fill about 10 jobs for cooks, servers, and bartenders. The recruitment will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, on the second floor at One Eleven Restaurant, 111 East LaFayette Square in LaFayette. Applicants for the cook and server positions must be at least 16 years old, while those who apply to serve alcoholic beverages must be at least 18.
