Two Chattanooga women were recently charged with shoplifting in Fort Oglethorpe after, police say, the duo stole more than $350 worth of merchandise, and then ran from the Wal-Mart on Battlefield Parkway.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Abria Jerri Mitchell, 21, and Jasmine Jenay Pritchett, 20, both of Chattanooga, Tenn., were arrested on Thursday, Feb. 14, for shoplifting. Both women have been released from jail on bond.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart at 3040 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) when store employees began to witness the theft unfold.

“I spoke to one employee who advised me that the women entered the store and began selecting items,” officer Michael Cannon said. “He said that they were pulling Wal-Mart bags from Ms. Pritchett’s purse and placing the items into the bags, and then into the buggy.”

The ladies then made their way to the front of the store and exited as though they were leaving with purchased items, reports show.

When the store’s loss prevention team confronted them moments after exiting the store, the two women ran through the parking lot towards Battlefield Parkway.

Police were able to locate both women within minutes, as one was found hiding the field adjacent to the store’s property, while the second was caught in front of Heritage Funeral Home across the street.

“While checking Ms. Pritchett’s purse for weapons, I located several dozen plastic Wal-Mart bags,” Cannon said.
