Gordon County Schools and Calhoun City Schools announced Thursday night that they will be closed Friday, Jan. 18 due to predictions of black ice on the roadways.
Twelve month employees should report as conditions allow.

The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority has cancelled several activities planned for the evening of January 17, 2013.
All basketball games have been cancelled. Games will be rescheduled and announced at a later date.
Gymnastics classes starting at 5:30 or later have been cancelled and will be made up at a later date.
The Rome-Floyd Tennis Center and all recreation centers have been closed for the evening.
As a system, Floyd County Schools has not cancelled events scheduled for this afternoon. We have been informed by local Emergency Management personnel that travel problems are not anticipated this afternoon or early evening. All activities and practices will continue as planned except for some select events or programs altered by the organizers. We have asked all coaches to end practices by 6:00 p.m. today.

The Floyd County Association for Academic Excellence meeting at 6:00 p.m. The event was to include the Middle School Oratorical Contest, The event will be reschedule for next Thursday January 24th at 6:00 pm at the central office building.
After-school tutoring for McKinney-Vento program students will not be held today.
The Pepperell Elementary School Spelling Bee planned for Friday morning has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 22, at 9:00 a.m.
The changes were made by the school or a sponsoring organization. It is not an indication of a possible cancellation of school tomorrow. Shorter University officials were headed home around 3 p.m. today under a threat of snow and evening classes have been canceled.
Rome City Schools afternoon activities have been canceled today.
All Georgia Northwestern Technical College campuses will close today at 2:00 p.m. All evening classes have been canceled.
No decisions regarding Friday have been made at this time.
Floyd County Schools have no plans at this time to cancel any activities today, but he said they are watching the weather.
Montessori School of Rome will not dismiss early. After school care and programs will be available until 5:30 p.m. A determination for Friday's school day will be determined by 6:45 a.m.
From Darlington:
Due to the potential for inclement weather this afternoon, all Darlington after-school meetings and activities have been cancelled. This includes academic, athletic and fine arts activities for all divisions; Upper School advisory time; as well as PK-8 Extended Day and Power Hour. The early buses will run, but the late buses will not. This means that Upper School students who take the bus home should be prepared to depart campus at 3:30 p.m.
Currently, there are no plans to interrupt the academic day. Administrators are watching the weather very carefully and we will let you know in advance if there are any further disruptions to our schedule.
Please be reminded of our Inclement Weather Policy, which appears in the Student Handbook. In case of inclement weather, Darlington School will make an independent decision on opening or late arrival, and this information will be posted on the school website by 6 a.m. Rome’s local radio stations and the Rome News-Tribune will also be notified by 6 a.m. and asked to make announcements.
