Walker County has joined the ranks of award winners honored for “the very best film and video productions, groundbreaking online video content, and outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs.”

So states the website for the Telly Awards, for which Walker County won a 2012 bronze Telly in the direct marketing category.

The video, which was produced by Video Ideas Productions out of Chattanooga, is titled “Discover Your True Nature: Walker County, GA” and can be viewed on the Walker County website at walkerga.us. It is designed to promote Walker County’s business-friendly amenities and encourage industry to locate here.

The award, in the shape of a winged humanoid, was received in August and currently resides in the Walker County commissioner’s office.

I'm very familiar with the Telly. You pay $85 for entry, then $170 for the statuette. That's a $255 paperweight, and like children's pageants, everyone wins something. Bronze is also the last tier.

You can also be a "true conservative" and go with the paper certificate, suitable for framing. But I'm sure it wasn't paid for by taxpayer's money ...

So... the county "won" the opportunity to buy a statuette.

Are we bragging about how gullible we are now?

‎"Entries are self-nominated with approximately 11,000 submissions per year as of 2010, and the awards are judged by past award winners. There is no set limit to the number of winners each year, but the total numbers in the thousands. The statue prizes are paid for by the winners using engraved information chosen by the recipient." / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telly_Award
