The Rossville Middle School football Bulldogs moved to 5-1 on the season with a 46-12 win over Chattanooga Valley this past Thursday.

Jalyn Shelton carried eight times for 131 yards, three touchdowns, and a pair of two-point conversions in the win, while Chris Henderson had 141 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries. Grayson Moore picked up 55 yards and a score on his two carries on the day.

Moore opened the game with a 42-yard interception return to set up the Bulldogs deep in Eagle territory. Two runs by Shelton covered the 15 yards to get Rossville on the board first. Then, following a CVMS punt, Henderson broke off a 74-yard scoring run to add to the lead.

The Eagles (2-4) would answer on their next possession as Marquie Davis scored on a jet sweep from nine yards out, but Luke Edwards recovered the onside kick attempt for Rossville to give the offense outstanding field position once more.

A 17-yard run by Moore was followed up by a 36-yard TD burst by Henderson, and after forcing a punt by the Eagles, Moore got loose for a 38-yard scoring scamper to close out the first half scoring.

Shelton scored his second touchdown early in the third quarter from 34 yards out, but CVMS gets new life on their ensuing drive after a roughing-the-punter penalty on the Bulldogs. Blaine Phillips spun his way past the Rossville defense from nine yards out to get the Eagles back on the board.

The Eagles would try another onside kick, but this one was scooped up by Rossville’s Sonny Green, and following runs by Henderson and Shelton, Shelton found the end zone from 10 yards out to cap the scoring. He added a late interception to seal the win.

Hunter McKenzie had a dozen tackles for the Bulldogs. Henderson added 10 stops, and Justin Baxter and Samuel Oliver each broke up two passes. Baxter also did the honors on three two-point conversion runs.

The regular season concludes on Thursday. Rossville will host Gordon Lee and Heritage will play at Chattanooga Valley.
