COMMUNITY · The Friends of the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Bank of LaFayette Community Room. Join Friends to support the library. Members will discuss the Feb. 3 open house and auction, which raised $3,800, and will offer ideas for additional 2013 fundraisers.

CHURCH · Elizabeth Terrace Baptist Church, 600 Mohawk Street, Rossville, will hold its 24th Annual Faith Promise Missions Conference from Feb. 13-17. Conference preacher will be Missionary Tom Lancaster. Each service will feature a different missionary presenting their field of service. Services on weeknights will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday services will begin with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., morning worship at 10:50 a.m., and Sunday evening worship at 6 p.m. There will be no Saturday night service. Pastor George Pinion and the members extend a cordial invitation to the public to attend. A nursery will be provided.

COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is seeking public comment on its amended general management plan. The plan changes provide guidance for making informed decisions about the future of park resource conditions and visitor experiences within the Lookout Mountain Battlefield unit of the park. The National Park Service has developed two preliminary alternative management concepts for the battlefield for public review, comment, suggestions, and advice. The preliminary alternatives and proposed changes to management zoning for Lookout Mountain can be viewed at: www.parkplanning.nps.gov/chch. Comments can be submitted electronically through the website between Feb. 8 and April 8. The park will host an open house on Feb. 28, from 3:30-7 p.m. at the St. Elmo Fire Hall, 4501 St. Elmo Avenue, in Chattanooga, Tenn. The purpose of the open house is for the National Park Service to describe alternatives and hear your ideas, concerns and thoughts about this special place. Formal presentations will be at 4: and 6 p.m. Comment forms will be available at the open house.

COMMUNITY · United Way’s Center for Non-profits (CNP) will offer an Intro to Foundation Directory seminar from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14. The CNP is a regional repository of the Foundation Center's online database of 92,000 grant makers and 1.3 million grant records. Learn how to access and use this database in your own grant research. ENTERTAINMENT · The Berry College Theatre Company presents “The Colored Museum,” opening Thursday, Feb. 14. COMMUNITY · Berry College accounting students will offer free tax assistance, to families and individuals with moderate levels of income. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is designed by the IRS to assist families to complete their annual tax returns free of charge. This marks the fourth year that Berry has offered the student-operated program. Through VITA, students acquire firsthand experience with tax preparation and client relationships in addition to continuously researching and getting familiar with changing tax laws. ENTERTAINMENT · Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga (ETC) will present Martin McDonagh's black comedy, “The Pillowman,” from Feb. 8-24. COMMUNITY · Registration is open for the sixth annual Berry Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K races to be run Saturday, March 23, at Berry College in Rome. The Berry Half Marathon raises funds for need-based scholarships to the local (Rome) elementary and middle school. Runners have given to Soles4Soles in past years, and organizers plan to continue to support this charity, as well as contribute $1 for each pair of shoes donated to help offset the cost of mailing the shoes to needed destinations. There will be collection boxes set up at race registration March 22 and 23. There will also continue to be a collection site for Medals4Mettle, a non-profit organization that facilitates the gifting of marathon, half marathon, and triathlon finishers’ medals to children and adults fighting debilitating diseases. COMMUNITY · The Veterans of All Wars Museum, at 71 Red Belt Road in Chickamauga, will be closed through Thursday, Feb. 28, and will reopen Friday, March 1. The museum has a collection of guns and other memorabilia on display. The museum was founded by Robert H. Honeycutt, a WWII veteran, POW, and survivor of the 800 mile German death march. ENTERTAINMENT · In honor of Black History month, The Salvation Army welcomes "The Word Players" from Knoxville, Tenn. This group will present their Black History Touring Show of "Lift Every Voice" by Doug Floyd on Saturday, Feb. 16, at noon. "Lift Every Voice" is a one-act presentation in drama, song and dance that tells the story and the influence of the Harlem Renaissance (1919-1929). COMMUNITY · Boot Camp for Dads will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road) in Chattanooga. This session is for first time dads who want to learn more about the upcoming new addition in their family. Topics include diapering, feeding, why babies cry and how to handle it, how you can help the new mom, learn about postpartum depression and general hands-on infant care. ENTERTAINMENT · The Georgia Winery will host its third annual Wine & Chocolate Open House every Saturday in February from noon-4 p.m. A Wine & Chocolate Pairing class that will take place every Saturday at 3 p.m. During the class there will be pairings of five Georgia Wines and five Dove Chocolates. Those who attend will also take home a souvenir wine glass. Classes are $20. Reservations are recommended and tickets can be purchased online from the Winery’s website. Following the Pairing Class, at 4 p.m. will be a Winery Tour. COMMUNITY · Crabtree Farms in Chattanooga will hold its fifth annual Community Garden Start-up Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. This interactive workshop will teach the basics of successful community gardening from site planning and building, to fundraising, growing vegetables and raising community support. Participants will have the opportunity to get advice from Crabtree’s urban farmers, see spring vegetable seedlings up close, and share tips with fellow gardeners. Space is limited. COMMUNITY · Parkridge East Hospital in East Ridge, Tenn., will offer a one-day Labor of Love (Lamaze) class ($75) on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This class is ideal for parents who don’t have the time for a four-week series. Lamaze breathing and relaxation exercises will be practiced during class. A support person is highly recommended to be in attendance with the expectant mother. Bring two pillows to class. Breastfeeding class is free when taking this class. A tour of the hospital is included during class.
