A Walker County grand jury has handed down a nine-count indictment against Tom Franklin Scroggins, the home heath-care worker accused of abusing a bedridden Rossville man.

Scroggins faces three counts of aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated sexual battery, one count of sexual battery, and two counts of simple battery.

He has been denied bond and is being held in the Walker County jail. His arraignment, when he can plead guilty or not guilty, is set for Feb. 28.

Scroggins was arrested Dec. 22 on his way to the victim’s residence. According to police, family members noticed bruising on their relative, an 82-year-old man who suffers from Alzheimer’s. The family placed a “nanny cam” in the residence and discovered he was being physically, mentally and sexually abused, police said.
