Murdock was first awarded the NWCA All-Academic NAIA Individual Award, one of only 44 given to wrestlers nationwide.
To considered for the award, nominees must be a National Qualifier on the mat, in addition to having a minimum grade point average of 3.25. Murdock is currently carrying a 3.49 GPA.
Overall, the Patriots were just outside the top 10 in the NAIA among wrestling teams with an overall GPA of 2.91.
Later, he received the NAIA Champion of Character Award. The award, distributed by the NAIA, is based on the core values of integrity, sportsmanship, respect, responsibility, and servant leadership.
Murdock was also awarded as one of nine National Qualifiers on the team, and he along with teammate Larone Madison were given captain's awards. Murdock and Madison were named as team captains back in the fall semester.
"Derek and Larone did an unbelievable job serving as leaders of our program," said UC head coach Matt Lowers. "Whether it was vocal leadership, leading by example, or taking over the lead roles in projects such as our Relay for Life team, Derek and Larone proved to be very capable leaders. We are very lucky to have them back for next season."
