The wins and awards continue to pour in for two of Walker County’s finest youth wrestlers.

Ethan Dendy, an upcoming seventh grader at LaFayette Middle School, and Jonathan Ragsdale, a rising freshman at Gordon Lee High School, both recently won the state’s Triple Crown and were given the Five Point Throw Award by USA Wrestling.

The Five Point Throw Award is given to any youth wrestler in the USA Wrestling program that wins the state Triple Crown (Freestyle, Folkstyle, and Greco-Roman) in the same year, and wins the Freestyle and Greco-Roman titles at the Southeast Regionals.

Only five wrestlers in the entire state, from beginner to high school division, won the Five Point Award this year.

Both wrestlers, who train together at UTC, competed in the 14-Under Schoolboy division at Regionals, Dendy in the 84-pound class and Ragsdale at 98 pounds.

It was the sixth state Triple Crown for Dendy, and the first for Ragsdale. Both wrestlers captured individual North Georgia Athletic Conference middle school championships this past season. Dendy won the 86-pound class while Ragsdale took the title at 94 pounds.

The duo also were each given the Ironman Award at the Regionals, which is given to wrestlers who finished first in all three styles at the Regional tournament.
