Hundreds of the northweset Georgians took to Barnhardt Circle in Fort Oglethorpe Sunday, July 3, to celebrate America’s birthday as part of the city’s annual “Patriotism at the Post” event.
“We’re glad to have everybody out here this year at such a great event,” said Fort Oglethorpe mayor Lynn Long.
The event, which could also be considered the area’s largest lawn chair convention, gave local kids the opportu-nity to show their patriotism in the Patriotic Kid and coloring contests.
A couple of dozen youngsters lined up decked out in their red, white, and blue gear, with Douglas Dewey being declared the winner.
The night also included musical entertainment by L’Abri Symphony Orchestra, who performed at the gathering for the fifth straight year.
The festivities were capped off with fireworks sponsored by the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.
“It’s a great event for the city, and it’s why my family and I come out here every year to see the fireworks,” said Gabrielle Hockett, a Fort Oglethorpe resident.
