An altercation between neighbors grew to a potentially deadly shooting Friday night, Aug. 19, in south Walker County.

LaFayette police chief Tommy Freeman said the incident took place on Stiles Road.

Two neighbors, Donald Travis Bailey, 62, and Darrell Wayne Kilgore, 37, were arguing late in the night.

“It’s not clear exactly what the argument is about at this time,” Freeman said. “Mr. Bailey pulled a firearm.”

Freeman said Bailey fired several bullets, with one striking Kilgore in the abdomen.

“He had to be taken to the hospital and he is doing okay at this time,” Freeman said.

Bailey has been charged with aggravated assault, plus discharge of a gun near a public street.
