EDUCATION · Both Walker County schools and Catoosa County schools are closed today due to the heavy rain, flooding and trees on roadways.

COMMUNITY · Cub Scout Pack #3099 is having their annual kickoff/cookout Tuesday, Sept. 6th at 7pm. at Rock Spring United Methodist Church on Hwy. 95. All boys grades 1 - 5 and their families are welcome to attend. #3099 is very active and loves camping, fishing, hiking, playing games and learning new and fun things. CHURCH · A revival will be held at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Lyerly, Ga. Sept. 7-9. There will be a guest speaker each night beginning at 7 p.m.

COMMUNITY · Seniors and Friends of Fort Oglethorpe meet each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Constitution Hall on Forrest Road. The all-volunteer group offers games, crafts, blood pressure, blood sugar checks, bingo and refreshments. The September schedule is Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Sept. 8

COMMUNITY · The Friends of the LaFayette-Walker County Library will meet Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at the library on North Main Street. Book sale and fund raising activities will be discussed. All are welcome.

COMMUNITY · The Northwest Georgia Master Gardener Club meets each second Thursday at the Walker County Agricultural Center in Rock Spring at 7 p.m. Everyone interested in gardening is invited to attend. The September meeting on the 8th will feature a presentation by the Dalhia Association.

COMMUNITY · The Teen Advisory Board will meet at the La Fayette-Walker Co. Public Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. Teens interested in planning programs and logging volunteer hours for college should come.

COMMUNITY · The Festival in the Valley is Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2853 Chattanooga Valley Road in Flintstone, Ga., next to the Chattanooga Valley Church of the Nazarene. There will be inflatables, singing, face painting, balloon making, arts and crafts, drinks, and food from Cornerstone Barbecue. The festival is also a benefit for Stocking Full of Love.
