Fort Oglethorpe police arrested a Chattanooga woman on DUI and drug charges after she was seen leaving her boyfriend’s apartment in a “reckless manner.”

According to Fort Oglethorpe Police reports:

Katherine Joyce Whiting, 38, of 5900 Champion Road in Chattanooga, Tenn., was arrested Sept. 24 and charged with DUI, possession of schedule III drugs, failure to maintain lane, and drugs not kept in original container.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Sept. 24, officers were advised to be on the lookout for a while Pontiac Bonneville after dispatch received a call that the vehicle had left Oglethorpe Ridge Apartments with a possible intoxicated driver.

Officer Chad Cardin spotted the vehicle turning north onto I-75 from Cloud Springs Road.

“After making contact with the offender, I noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the ve-hicle,” Cardin wrote in the report. “I notified Whiting of the reason for my stopping her, at which time she admitted to being the lookout subject, and stated that she had just gotten into an argument with her boyfriend.”

Whiting also admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages prior to driving, and failed three field sobriety tests after being asked to exit the vehicle, reports show.

Another officer certified in Advanced Roadside Impairment Detection and Enforcement (ARIDE) arrived at the scene. He concluded that Whiting showed signs of recent poly-drug use, which is a mixture of other drugs with alcoholic beverages.

A pill bottle prescribed to another family member was found in the driver’s area of Whiting’s car, at which time it was discovered that the bottle contained Xanax instead of the prescribed Tylenol with codeine.
