Michael James Mulvaney, 59, LaFayette
Michael James Mulvaney of LaFayette died Monday, March 12, 2012. He was 59.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sean Mulvaney, and parents, Richard Mulvaney and Jean Hoyt.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Mulvaney; son, Stephen Mulvaney; daughter, Ann Cummings, and two grandchildren.

Mary Ruth Sutherland, 87, Catoosa County
Mary Ruth Sutherland of Catoosa County died Sunday, March 11, 2012. She was 87.
She lived in Catoosa County all her life. A member of First Baptist Church, Ringgold, she enjoyed the Joy Choir and her Love Sunday school class. She loved baseball, especially the Braves. She worked for Western Union for 32 years, then worked as a clerk for the Probate Court of Catoosa County, and ended her work career as deputy clerk of Superior Court of Catoosa County for 25 years. After retiring, she volunteered at Hutcheson Hospital in the Hutch for ten years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Roscoe Williams and Zenobia Angeline Smith Williams; three sisters, Amalie Tate Parry, Eunice Campbell, Jo Daffron; five brothers, Dorsey Williams, J. C. Williams, Tom Williams, Charles Williams and Ray Williams; two half-brothers, Farris Williams and Edwin Williams.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Lebron Benton of Ringgold; two granddaughters, Karen B. Mandall of Las Vegas, Nev., Lara (Lon) Langston of McDonough; two great-granddaughters, Reagan B. Langston and Rachel M. Langston of McDonough; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. All were loved by her.

Mary Ann Parson Rogers, 54, Apison, Tenn.
Mary Ann Parson Rogers of Apison, Tenn., died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at her home. She was 54.
She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and was a 1975 graduate of Rossville High School. She was a realtor with ReMax Propertiers in Chattanooga. Those who knew her will always remember her ever-present smile, the gift of laughter and her willingness to always help others.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert (Bob) Rogers; husband, Dilmus (Mack) Rogers, and father, Robert E. Parson.
Survivors include her mother, Sue Parson of Rossville; sister, Pamela (Ronnie) Lowery of Chickamauga; brothers, Robert E. (Kay) Parson Jr. of Ringgold and Michael D. Parson of Rossville; nephews, Mike Parson, Adam Parson, Kevin Lowery, Andrew Parson and Jon Parson.

Edna Sue King Nuckolls of Rossville died Thursday, March 8, 2012. She was 96.
She was born in Whitfield County to the late James Buford and Aslee Manis King. She was a long time member of Calvary Memorial Baptist Church in Fort Oglethorpe.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Nuckolls; daughters, Ethel Ammons, Barbara Gallman; sisters, Nellie Ingle, Julie Hardin and a brother, Charlie King.

Ashley Yvonne King of Chickamauga died Thursday, March 8, 2012. She was 24.
She was a lifelong resident of the north Georgia area and was a member of Garrett’s Chapel Baptist Church, where she gave her life to the Lord at a very early age. She had attended Ridgeland High School and was a loving dauther, sister, wife and mother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles King.

Kathy Lynne McKinney of Ringgold died Friday, March 9, 2012. She was 49.
She was born in Rossville to the late Norman Eugene and Joyce Marie Smith and was a lifelong resident of the north Georgia area. She was a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church and was previously employed with Maaco Auto Painting as a secretary for more than 20 years. She was very active with the MaryEllen Locher Cancer support group and was a loving sister, mother and grandmother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Newbille.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Vanessa and Matt Eaves of Rock Spring, and Crystal and Charles Shaw of Rossville; three sisters, Mary Pavelka of Corpus Christi, Texas, Norma Redmon of Rossville, and Martha Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 8 grandchildren; special cousin, Ann Argenbright and several nieces and nephews.

Iva Dean Mallicote Branam of Cleveland, Tenn., died Saturday, March 10, 2012. She was 64.
She was a resident of the Cleveland area for the past year and was formerly of Ringgold. She was a former employee of Captain D’s, where she worked for 13 years, and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary Best Mallicote; sister, Lois Lane Essex; three brothers, Johnny, Lawrence and Houston Mallicote.

Kathryn Joyce Jones, of Rossville, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
She longed to be reunited with her husband of 53 years, Poole Jones. They are happy together again in heaven.
She was a native of Benton, Tenn., and had lived most of her life in the Rossville area. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was a member of Rossville First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Bridge Builders. Following her retirement from Borg Textiles, she volunteered at Hutcheson Medical Center and visited shut-ins on a regular basis.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Henry C. Nicholson Sr., and Ava Jacobs Nicholson; twin sister, Lois Nicholson, sister, Betty Nicholson, and brothers, Billy Nicholson, Henry C. (Maxine) Nicholson Jr., and Robert A. (Betty Ann) Nicholson.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Byron Ball of Ringgold; brother, Charles E. (Jackie) Nicholson of Marietta; granddaughters, Kristy L. Daniel Adrian Brock, 61, LaFayette
Daniel Adrian Brock of LaFayette died Thursday, March 8, 2012. He was 61.
He was born July 18, 1950 in LaFayette. He graduated from Middle Georgia College and the University of Georiga. He was named to Who’s Who in Young Business Men of Georgia in 1972. He managed the Kitchens Medical Clinic in LaFayette. He retired in 2006 from managerial supervision of convenient stores.
His father, “Abe” Brock, formerly a Lookouts baseball player, had him playing baseball at the young age of three. He was a well rounded sportsman. His great love was football. He wore #32 when he was a great running back for the LaFayette Ramblers from 1965-1968. He was mentioned in the Free Press every week for touchdowns. He received several offers from the SEC and chose Georgia. He was a member of the LaFayette Elks Lodge #2018 and the Sons of American Legion in East Ridge, Tenn., squadron #95. He held many offices in the Elks Lodge.
He will be missed by the many friends he had. He seemed to collect friends like others collect material items.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LeeRoy “Abe” and Lota Brock; brother, Van Brock; and sister, Brenda Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Jolie McCleskey Brock; sister, Judy (Don) Gray; brother-in-law, Jimmy Smith; nieces, Hayley Mitchell, Terri (Jon) Buchan and Anna (Trae) Whitehead; nephews, Shawn Tucker and Scott (Gwen) Gray; four great nieces, two great nephews, and one great-great niece.

Betty June Haslerig of Rock Spring died Saturday, March 10, 2012. She was 80.
She was a longtime resident of Rock Spring and a member of Peavine Baptist Church. She was retired from Nation’s Hosiery Mill in Chattanooga.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Joe Gordy; sisters, Mary Jo Gordy, Maxine Gordy and Dotsie Tate; brothers, Earl Gordy and Jack Gordy.

Jerry Thomas Land of Ringgold died Sunday, March 11, 2012. He was 65.
Known as the “sockman,” he was a native of Fayetteville, Tenn., had lived in the Ringgold area for the past 29 years and was of the Baptist faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Ross and Annie Mae Shelton Land; and three brothers, Horace, Paul and William Land.

He lived in the Chattanooga and north Georgia area most of his life, and retired from Burner Systems International after many years of service.

She was a native of Scottsboro, Ala., a daughter of the late Zack and Bettie Frisbee Gant. She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Tabernacle and had worked several years in the labor and delivery department at Hutcheson Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Bankston Morgan Jr. and Dewey Pittman.
Survivors include a son Wayne (Denise) Morgan of Ringgold; stepchildren, Vicki, Lynn and Dewey Glenn Pittman and Brenda Rush; brother, Howard Gant of Alabama; sisters, Pearl Satterfield and Ruth Satterfield, both of Alabama; grandchildren; Trox Bankston Morgan III and Brandi Francisco and other grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Donald E. Beaty, 78, Ringgold
Donald E. Beaty of Ringgold died on Friday, March 2, 2012. He was 78.
He was born in Ringgold (Woodstation) and had lived in Illinois most of his life. He attended Ringgold High school and was a Korean War veteran. He had worked for many railroad companies and retired from CSX in 1987. Throughout the years, he held several positions for the railroad. He was active in the community, volunteering with his wife at Catholic Charities and the senior citizens commission. His favorite activity was fishing, and he enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the sport he loved.
His parents Ben and Margaret Beaty of Woodstation and brother J.D. (John) Beaty of Noble preceded him in death.
He was a beloved husband to Beverly Beaty for 55 years; loving father to Bruce Sr. (Carrie), Scott Beaty and LaDonna (Stanley) Warzosek, all from Ill.; proud grandfather of Bruce Jr. (Tiffany), Jacob, Tyler Beaty and Stanley and Matthew Warzosek, Christopher and Ashley Dusex; cherished great-grandfather of Kaleb, Kylie, Evan and Dominick; caring brother of Jane (Calvin Clark), Nancy (Buck) Edgeman of Rock Spring; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Christine Beaty of Noble.

She was a member of the deaconess board at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Eastern Star, and Starlighters Gospel Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Green Shropshire; parents, James Wesley Stalling and Cora Lee Stalling; sister, Sherlon Tucker; brothers, Howard Stalling and Claudius Stalling; three grandchildren, Jarred C. Shropshire, Chris Shropshire and Aubrey Shropshire.

Retired CW-4 John Billy Junkins of LaFayette died on Friday, March 2, 2012. He was 78.
He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard with 42 years of service. He was a member and past master of Western Lodge #91 F&AM of LaFayette, and member of Alhambra Shrine of Chattanooga.

He was a lifelong resident of north Georgia and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam and receiving the National Defence Service medal. His passion in life was spending time with his family and friends, and he was well known for his big heart and his great sense of humor.

Robbie Benton Rogers, 96, Ringgold
Robbie Benton Rogers of Ringgold died March 5, 2012, at her daughter's home surrounded by her family.
She was a lifelong resident of the Boynton community and a longtime member of Boynton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school, and held backyard Bible school in her carport. She also sang in the choir and enjoyed mission trips. She taught second grade at Fort Oglethorpe Elementary School for 35 years.
She was teacher of the year for Catoosa County and a member of the board of directors of the Catoosa County Teachers Credit Union. She was a longtime correspondent for the Catoosa County News, reporting for Boynton Baptist Church and also community news. She was a member of the ADK Sorority of teachers and the Georgia Education Association.
Her great-grandfather was George Washington Brotherton Sr., of the Chickamauga Park Brotherton House. George Washington Brotherton Jr., her grandfather, was the owner of the property where the stone tower now stands. She was the granddaughter of the first park marshal of Chickamauga Park, Robert Benton. Her father’s childhood home is now Benton Place Campus.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Marion F. Rogers Sr.; parents Robert and Lizzie Brotherton Benton; sisters, Jessie Benton White, Lois Benton Peters, and Evelyn Benton Cooper; brother, C. Edward Benton; grandchild, Roger Marion Schultz and great-grandson, Joseph Hunter Schultz; son-in-laws, J. C. Schultz Jr., Paul McCormick and Jack Suddeth.

Raymond Burl “R.B.” Shoemake of Deland, Fla., formally of Georgia, died Feb. 26, 2012 at his home after a long illness. He was 78.
He grew up in Georgia and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving 20 years. He then retired and moved his family to Deland in 1977, where he owned and operated an upholstery shop. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ovlean Dilbeck Shoemake and brother, Emmett Shoemake.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Frieda Shoemake; daughters, Diane Shoemake of Rossville, Merry (Jimmy) Buckles of Chickamauga; son, Whelan (Kristina) Shoemake of Denver, Colo.; sister, Marsella Swanson of Ringgold; brother, Avery (Evelyn) Shoemake of Rock Springs; and granddaughter Misty Gifford of Rossville.

Vicky Gene Burnette of Rossville died on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012. She was 71.
She was born in Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Bill and Helen Blackwell. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian and worked for First Cumberland Presbyterian Child Development Center for 14 years.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Helen Cordell.

She was born in Rock Spring to the late J.B. and Myrtis Lee Turnipseed. She had lived in the Rock Spring and Chickamauga area for most of her life and was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put others’ needs before her own. She never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was a lifelong resident of the north Georgia area and was a member of the Boynton Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Joymakers and was a loving mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Bruce, and daughters Frances McKinny, Glenda Alsobrook, and Martha Farris.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Johnny and Kim Bruce; brother, Wayne Stephens; granddaughters, Fonda Hunt, Kristy Ramsey and Misty Haney; grandsons, Tony Armour, Billy Story, Nicholas Bruce and Justin Badgett; great-grand daughters, Brook Dycus, Taylor Hunt, and Haley Adams; great-grandsons, Cameron Ramsey and Evan Bruce; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kennedy Dycus.
Funeral services: Monday, March 5, at noon in the funeral home chapel with Keith McLeod officiating. Burial: Lakewood Memory Gardens South.
