According to LaFayette Police Department reports:
Crystal Leeanne Cothern, 20, of Patterson Road in LaFayette was arrested on July 11 at her residence at 1 p.m.
Cothern faces charges for having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old she recently met.
The minor stayed with Cothern for a few days, telling his mother that he was staying over with a friend, according to captain Stacey Meeks of the LaFayette Police Department.
“It was consensual, but due to his age it’s statutory rape since he can’t consent,” Meeks said.
The boy eventually told his mother the truth and that he had a relationship with the woman and it had been sexual.
The mother then notified police of the situation.
“We went with (his mother) to retrieve him from the residence,” Meeks said.
Officers questioned Cothern at her residence and she gave her account of the relationship and did confess to knowingly having sex with a minor, according to Meeks.
“(Cothern) gave no credible rebuttal of the allegations,” Meeks said. “She admitted to knowing how old he was from the beginning.”
Cothern had no previous arrest record but will be facing a felony for statutory rape of the minor.
