A Chattanooga, Tenn., doctor was arrested in Rossville after he allegedly traveled to there with intentions of having sexual relations with a minor child, but instead was met by undercover officers.

According to acting special agent in charge Ricky Maxwell, the arrest was part of an undercover sting involving the Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Vikul Vindobhai Patel, 35, of Hidden Creek Drive in Chattanooga was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 2, on charges of attempted child molestation and violation of the Computer Pornography Act.

Patel has been released from Walker County jail on bond.

“Patel, a doctor of internal medicine, came to the attention of law enforcement over the internet where he began a series of ‘chats’ with undercover agents and officers regarding his desire to have sex with a minor child,” Maxwell said in a news release.
