According to Ty Snyder, manager of the Western & Atlantic Tunnel, "We have a record number of re-enactors coming along with the renowned 8th Regiment Band from Rome, Ga., providing period music performed on period instruments. This year’s battle will also be narrated with the use of a new public address system that will allow visitors to understand what is happening during the battle.
"This is a very unique re-enactment; you will be closer to the battle than anywhere else with a great view of the action, and our re-enactment battle actually occurs on the original sites from 1863-64.”
Gates open at 9 a.m. each day, with the battle beginning at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12-under and includes guided tours of the historic tunnel, museum and Clisby Austin house. Prior to the battle, visit period sutler tents (selling Civil war era items), a re-enactment campsite and enjoy a variety of food items, including barbeque, hamburgers, fresh corn, homemade fried pies and sodas.
Parking is free, with special handicapped parking that includes shuttle service to the battlefield.
