RELIGIOUS ENTERTAINMENT · World famous Agape puppets will perform from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Joe Stock Park off Main Street in downtown LaFayette. Ted Scoggins and Martha Anne Brooks are featured. Enjoy music, food, and ballon tying. The event is free.

ENTERTAINMENT · The LaFayette Downtown Development Authority will host “Movie in the Park Night” on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Joe Stock Memorial Park at the corner of Wardlaw and North Main Streets (next to Chattooga Academy). The DDA will show “Hunger Games” at about 9 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13 and is based on the first of a trilogy of young adult books by Suzanne Collins. Admission is free. Bring a blanket or chairs.

COMMUNITY · Tryouts will be held in LaFayette for an all-female football team. The North Georgia Thrashers are a new women’s football team trying to gain approval into the Women’s Football Alliance. All tryouts are at LaFayette High School at 10 a.m. every Saturday in September and the first two Saturdays in October. The team is accepting women of all shapes and sizes and ages 18 and older. COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free program on Sept. 8. Join park guide Lee White at 2 p.m. for a 90- minute walking tour commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam in Maryland. This tour will meet at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center and caravan to Poe Road for the approximate half-mile walk. Ccomfortable, supportive footwear, appropriate clothing for the weather and water are recommended for this program. Monday, Sept. 10

COMMUNITY · The Catoosa County Historical Society will meet Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Stone Church Museum. Nancy Harris Crowe will talk about the Yates house, one of the oldest Catoosa homes still standing. She is a descendant of Maj. Presley and Rachel Thedford Yates, who married in 1832, and the house was built about this time. Local historian Bill Clark will discuss the county’s plans for the Yates house.

ENTERTAINMENT · The Chattanooga Film Society (CFS) and the Mise En Scenesters (MES) are presenting the POV Summer Film Series that ends Monday, Sept. 10, with the screening of “Reportero” at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown Chattanooga YMCA on 301 West 6th Street. The film follows a veteran reporter and his colleagues at Zeta, a Tijuana-based independent newsweekly as they stubbornly ply their trade in one of the deadliest places in the world for members of the media.
