Rossville’s third and so-called “final” public hearing, held Monday night, on a proposed property tax hike ended in uncertainty and frustration.

None of the four council members would make a motion to approve the tax hike, which would have also served as an approval of the city’s new budget.

The budget is now in a stalemate and was tabled — to the applause of about 70 people at the council meeting.

The indecision came after 90 minutes of public comments that brought more questions to light than solid answers. None of the concerned speakers supported the possible tax increase.

City officials will meet on Monday, Sept. 17, for another work session on the tax hike and budget.
