“Dalton continues to attract Ultra sports and the Jewel is another example,” said Brett Huske, Executive Director of the Dalton Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The Pinhoti offers an extreme challenge for runners willing to take on the challenge. The race will start and end at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center. Runners will compete on an “out and back” course which will be staffed with many volunteer organizations providing support for runners.”
This year Liz Bauer from Plainville will be attempting to complete the most 100 mile races in a year. The current record is 25 and the Georgia Jewel will be Liz’s 26th 100-mile race in 2012. Her goal this year is to run 30.
Liz began running marathons in 2000 and completed her first “Ultra” run of 50 miles in 2001. Her first 100 mile run was in Arkansas in 2002. If she is able to reach her goal of 30 this year, she will achieve thes feat on Oct. 27 in Arizona.
