One of the businesses participating in the Sidewalk Sale is Joy's United Gift Shop on Tennessee Street in downtown Ringgold, owned by Joy Thornton.
According to business owner, Joy Thornton (Joy's United Gift Shop), a number of downtown businesses will be selling reduced-price items and close-outs on their sidewalks.
"The girls here (Joy's United) have committed to an 'all-out junk market' and clearance sale," Thornton said.
Raye Brooks, owner of Ringgold Art & Frame, said she will have all stock prints and oils on clearance, with some items marked "make an offer."
Sidewalk Sale vendors include Joy's United Gift Shop, Ringgold Art and Frame, UnikTings!, Gregory's Antiques and Interiors, The House of Avon, The Ringgold Gift Shop, and others.
Visitors at the Sidewalk Sale may also register at any of the Ringgold Downtown Partners businesses for the up-coming "Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest," scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6.
"Artists" will be assigned a sidewalk square and given chalk or may bring their own chalk. Art paper will be taped to the sidewalks and then displayed in the windows of vacant buildings and store fronts for viewing.
Areas suggested for drawing (with minimal foot traffic into businesses) are: Cleburne Alley, Nashville Street (in front of the Ringgold Court House or the Evitt Building) and Tennessee Street in front of Dr. Stephenson's office.
Judging, directed by Ringgold Middle School art teacher Melony Clark, will be done by a local art panel. Win-ners chosen for each age division will be announced on the same day and will receive $50 gift certificates.
