A Rossville man was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 7, following a violent domestic disturbance.

According to the Rossville Police Department:

Twenty seven-year-old Jerry Wayne Dawson Jr. of Merrywood Drive in Rossville was arrested at 9:08 a.m. after police responded to a neighbor’s call to 911 of someone screaming at a residence on Second Street.

Dawson faces felony charges for aggravated assault and false imprisonment. His bond has been set at $25,000.

Rossville police officer Nathan Baker arrived on the scene and spoke with a woman in a vehicle outside the residence on Second Street. She was visibly shaken and emotional.

The woman stated that Dawson had entered the residence while she was asleep. She said he crawled into bed and held her down with a screwdriver to her throat.

Dawson made stabbing motions to her neck, telling her “it was her last day on Earth,” according to the victim statement.

The woman attempted to fight back but was shoved to the floor, she said.

Dawson then moved a couch in front of a door to prevent the woman’s escape, she said.

At another point in the ordeal, Dawson held the woman down on the bathroom floor and in the tub, she said.

She later grabbed a cardboard box, filled with baseball cards, and hit him over the head, she said.

Dawson left the residence, telling the woman that she should not call the police and that “he would return to finish the job and kill her” if she did, she said.

Dawson drove off from the scene in a tan Chevy Tahoe and was later found at a residence on Merrywood Drive in Rossville, where he lives.

Baker took the woman to the Rossville Police Department to have the injuries and bruises to her neck and arms photographed. She did not seek further medical treatment.

Deputies located Dawson and brought him to the Rossville Police Department.

Dawson asked for medical attention upon arriving. A medic unit responded but Dawson refused to be transported.

His version of the events did not include any fight, only that he “walked in and was hit in the head with the cardboard box.” He could not explain how he received a thin scratch to his chest.
