About five percent of Walker County’s registered voters have already cast ballots for the Nov. 6 general election.

By Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 23, 1,511 voters had come through the Walker County courthouse, according to elections officials, who said they are averaging more than 200 voters per day.

Walker County has 32,447 registered voters.

Early voting opened Oct. 15 and runs through Friday, Nov. 2. It is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Walker County Courthouse in LaFayette. Four satellite polling places throughout the county will also be open Monday, Oct.29, through Friday, Nov. 2.

Election officials said that about 1,000 absentee ballots had been sent out by postal mail as well, and expressed their expectations that, should current voter rates continue, more than 7,000 early and absentee ballots would have been completed by election day on Nov. 6, thereby hopefully cutting down on the inevitable crowds.
