Raulston Acres Christmas Tree Farm at 2572 Hwy. 95 in Rock Spring and local sponsors are donating farm-grown Christmas trees to U.S. troops and military families through Trees for Troops.

The effort is part of a nationwide program of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation in conjunction with the National Christmas Tree Association, the Georgia Christmas Tree Association and FedEx.

Consumers can help support Trees for Troops by making a tax-deductible donation at treesfortroops.org) or by purchasing trees to donate at tree farm collection points. Raulston Acres is a collection point in this area.

Anyone wishing to donate a tree may contact Raulston Acres Christmas Tree Farm in order to make a donation of $20 covering the wholesale cost of a tree and its preparation for delivery. Checks should be made payable to the farm. Military personnel will pick up the trees and distribute them in early December.

Last holiday season, more than 19,000 trees were delivered to nearly 70 military bases in the U.S. and overseas. This brought the total to more than 103,000 real Christmas rrees delivered through Trees for Troops since 2005.

“Being involved with Trees for Troops is truly a gift that gives back,” said Nigel Manley, Christmas SPIRIT Foundation chairman. “It’s rewarding and meaningful to everyone involved, because it gives us the opportunity to say thank you to our troops, and help ensure military families have the kind of joyful, traditional Christmas memories that we would wish for America’s heroes.”

Open since 2008, Raulston Acres Christmas Tree Farm is a family-operated, “choose and cut” operation providing real trees to families in the tri-state area. Each year since 2009, the farm and local sponsors have participated in the Trees for Troops program and sought to honor our area’s service families for their sacrifice and dedication. The farm opens the day after Thanksgiving at 10 a.m. Otherwise, hours are Monday-Friday, noon to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Sundays. Last day open this holiday season is Dec. 22.
