Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend special activities on Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 10-12.

On Nov. 10-11, Living History volunteers representing the 9th Kentucky, U.S.A. Regiment will conduct infantry demonstrations at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Living historians will present talks about the life of the common soldier throughout the weekend on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. They will conduct rifle firing demonstrations at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Visitors are encouraged to visit the camp throughout the weekend to learn what life was like on a day-to-day basis for the Civil War soldier.

On Nov. 10, join a park ranger for a 90-minute interpretive program, “A Walk Down Memory Lane – Units on the Battleline,” to visit some of the monuments along Battleline Road and learn about some of the soldier’s accounts and stories associated with the Battle of Chickamauga. This program begins at 2 p.m. at Tour Stop 2. It is recommended that you wear comfortable, supportive footwear and dress appropriately for the weather.

On Nov. 12, join a park ranger for a special program titled “The Enlisted Man in the Civil War – Where Do I Sign Up?” This program will focus on the enlisted man from both sides of the conflict: where they enlisted, for what reasons, why they left home and the training they received to become a fighting soldier. This program begins at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 2 p.m.

Veterans Day will be celebrated as a fee-free weekend for all park visitors in honor of U.S. veterans and current members of the U.S. Armed Forces. This includes Point Park on Lookout Mountain. The fee-free period begins Nov. 10 and runs through Nov. 12.
