With Christmas only a few weeks away, the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office is gearing up for its 25th year of sponsoring the Stocking Full of Love toy drive.

Each year the Sheriff's Office collects names of needy children from Catoosa County schools, civic organizations, and state agencies and provides toys for those children at Christmas.

Last year, approximately 1,400 children, who otherwise would not have had a Christmas, received toys from the cause.

This year, beginning on Saturday, Dec. 1, the Sheriff's Office will begin accepting names of those children (ages 12 months to 14 years) who would benefit from the program.

Anyone needing assistance with Christmas should call either 706-965-7138 or 706-965-7139 for an appointment.

Names for this year’s drive will only be accepted from Dec. 1 to Dec. 10 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

After Dec. 10, donated toys will be sorted and more toys will be purchased with the money donated to bring the joy of Christmas to hundreds of area children.

In conjunction with the Stocking Full of Love, the 25th annual Catoosa County Toy Run is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Dec. 2, with a rain date slated for Dec. 9 if necessary.

The run is sponsored by Mike Gard and Dave Clemmons.

As has been the case in years past, those taking part in the Toy Run will meet at 1503 LaFayette Road in front of Big Lots in Fort Oglethorpe at 2 p.m.

The run will pull out from the parking lot at 2:30 p.m. and will travel along Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) headed towards Ringgold High School.

Those who would like to donate a gift, but are unable to attend the run, may leave a gift at First Volunteer banks in Ringgold or Fort Oglethorpe.

Additional information about the Toy Run can be obtained by contacting Mike Gard at 706-937-6546 or Dave Clemmons at 423-236-4100.

Anyone wishing to donate toys directly to the Stocking Full of Love can bring the toys to the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office or contact the office to have the toys picked up from a residence or business.

All monetary donations should be by check and made payable to the Catoosa County Stocking Full of Love at PO Box 909, Ringgold GA 30736.
