LaFayette Wal-Mart robbery
A black male wearing a black hoodie entered the LaFayette Walmart on Thursday, Nov 29.
He entered the building through the grocery entrance at 11:10 p.m. and went into the garden center.
The man used a claw hammer, that he carried into the store, to pry open an unoccupied register, taking $400 and significantly damaging the register valued at a few thousand dollars, according to captain Stacey Meeks.
He returned to the grocery area, purchased some milk and left the building at 11:19 p.m. He left the parking lot possibly in a tan colored Ford Taurus.
The man has been targeting Walmarts for more than two years, during which he has stolen from the Dalton location and twice from the Fort Oglethorpe store.
He is believed to be in his early twenties and approximately 5’10” tall.
“Walmart Security believe this is the same guy that they have been looking for in (similar thefts) Atlanta and across northwest Georgia,” Meeks said. “It appears to be the same guy and the same method of operation.”
Loss prevention personnel don’t believe that the man is from Walker County, but rather a more seasoned criminal from Chattanooga or Atlanta area.
The robbery was a rare occurrence, according to officials in LaFayette, while shoplifting from the store remains a more common occurrence weekly, according to Walmart Loss Prevention.
Walmart needs to enact a no "hoodie" policy so it would make him stand out and people would take notice of him in the store.
