Local reality show star Joan Koplan with Small Town Security continues her rise in the ranks of Hollywood. Koplan and her private investigator Brian Taylor will make dual appearances on “The Soup,” a widely acclaimed parody-themed show produced by E! Entertainment. Airtimes are Dec. 19 and a two-part segment on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 at 10 p.m.

Koplan said she was “treated like a queen” during her recent filming stint on “The Soup.” She and Taylor joined a large group of other reality stars from shows aired over the past several years for the special “Soup” episode.

“They were so wonderful to me,” Koplan said of the E! Entertainment staff. “Everybody was saying how much they loved me and thought we were so funny. They were so good to me and so genuine.”

Koplan was especially touched when Joel McHale, host of “The Soup,” told everyone in the crowd that he thought “'Small Town Security' was the best show on television.”

“Brian and I were so shocked,” Koplan said. “We couldn't believe what we heard. He (McHale) said when he first saw the show, he couldn't figure out if it was scripted or unscripted, but either way, he liked it from the beginning. He treated us wonderfully.”

Although Hollywood treated her special, Koplan said the reception at home is still sometimes disappointing and often very painful.

“People around town still don't like me,” said a tearful Koplan. “Sometimes they act like they do, but I wonder if it's really from the heart. It hurts. I know I'm different, but I'm not a monster.”

Taylor said the Dec. 19 “Soup” segment is a spoof rendition of “We Are the World,” which was recorded and sung by a wide range of popular artists in the 1980s. Poking fun at the doomsday prediction of the Mayans is also a theme. Taylor said he wasn't allowed to divulge any other details, but the two-part segment set to air Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 is a “must-see” for Small Town fans.
