A Fort Oglethorpe man was charged with DUI after the vehicle he was driving flipped over on its top in a single-car accident.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Chad Ethan Neal, 22, of Elaine Circle in Fort Oglethorpe was arrested on Sunday, Dec. 23, and charged with DUI.

Neal has been released from jail on bond.

Officers responded to the accident on South Cedar Lane just before midnight, reports show.

"He (Neal) stated that upon swerving in an attempt to avoid striking a dog that had ran out in front of him, he over-corrected the vehicle," officer James Brannon said. "After running off the edge of the road, his vehicle overturned."

Questioning then ensued, and it was determined that alcohol could have been a contributing factor to the accident.

"While speaking with Neal, I observed two cases of alcoholic beverages still in the vehicle," Brannon said. "Continuing general conversation with Neal, I asked for hiss identification and inquired if he had been drinking. He stated that he had a little earlier in the evening."

Field sobriety tests were then administered, at which time Neal was taken into custody and transported to Catoosa County jail without incident.
