According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office:
Barry Lamar Franklin of Hog Jowl in Chickamauga was arrested on Dec. 24 for attempting to commit a theft.
The original call to authorities was out of concern for an intoxicated individual with a gun.
Franklin fired the gun prior to the deputies’ arrival. The caller said Franklin fired it in the air, but Franklin claims he was shooting at a coyote.
Earlier that day, the caller had purchased a Husky tool set for $50 from Franklin.
The toolbox disappeared from the victim’s trunk, which was later returned by Tony Franklin, the suspect’s brother and a witness in the case.
Deputies returned to the caller’s residence for additional information, only to have Franklin return “staggering around and unsteady on his feet,” according to detective Mason Brewer.
Franklin was arrested for charges of pedestrian under the influence and for entering an automobile with intent to commit theft or felony. He is on probation for another offense.
