The council chambers were transformed, due to the current election of a new council member. Early voting has brought approximately 222 Fort Oglethorpe citizens to place their ballots. Election Day is March 19.
During the meeting the city council heard the first reading of an amendment to the building codes regulations. The code is in conflict with the national electrical code, according to city manager Ron Goulart. A small portion of the code concerned with the width of copper wiring will be deleted. Though council members heard the first reading for a codes ordinance, they were quick to finalize a zoning ordinance in the third and final reading. The zoning ordinance was approved following a public hearing. The property on Battlefield Parkway was annexed into the city by unanimous decision.
The final piece of business was a work authorization for three combined sewer projects. Phil Parker, director of public works, explained the project is for pump station removal. In order to complete the bids and drawing for the project, the council agreed to spend $29,500.
