Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce representatives told the Rome-Floyd Development Authority that Floyd County’s business interests were well represented during a trip to Washington, D.C., last week.

“We continued to work on transportation and other types of issues that impact everything from our small businesses to large manufacturers and others,” Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce President Al Hodge said Tuesday.

“We had good communication with both U.S. senators and three congressional representatives,” Hodge said. “We met with Congressman Tom Graves and also were able to communicate with Congressman Gingrey and Congressman Kingston.”

Chamber Economic Development Director Heather Seckman said her office has been very active with prospective activity both on the ground and in terms of completing requests for information.

One form submitted an exhaustive 127-question document.

“One of the questions was is your county energy tax exempt, yes or no?” Seckman said, “We were happy to be able to say yes we are, and I want to say thank you to all of you for that.”

Seckman also told authority members that a series of international representatives would be in Georgia next week.

She also said the chamber would be hosting prospects as well as representatives of companies in Rome that have expanded in the last year during the annual Atlanta Steeplechase coming up April 13.

“That is one of our premier events that we invite the state project managers and state selection consultants to,” Seckman said.

There is still no comment from the chamber on Romecast LLC, the name of the firm that purchased the old Florida Tile property recently. Gates to the old plant are open virtually every day, however it is impossible to see what kind of activity is taking place on the site.
