An 18-year-old Rossville man, wanted in Nashville for his role in a June 23 wreck in which a teenager was killed, is behind bars in Chattanooga.
Jonathan L. Flippo was arrested Saturday, July 11, in Chattanooga on charges unrelated to the wreck.
According to Nashville and Chattanooga police reports:
Flippo was driving a Dodge Stratus in Nashville on June 23 when he crashed into a John Deere tractor. He fled the scene to nearby apartments.
Flippo said a blue Nissan Maxima cut him off, causing him to swerve and collide with the tractor. That claim has not been confirmed. Flippo gave no reasoning for fleeing the scene.
A teenager passenger, 13-year-old Jessica Burkhart of East Ridge, Tenn., was killed. Two more passengers, Nicholas Scarborough,18, and Tonya Jones, 17, were treated at Vanderbilt University. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The driver of the tractor was not injured.
Flippo was arrested in Chattanooga on July 11 at 5:57 a.m. on charges of vandalism, mali-cious mischief and evading arrest. Bond on those charges has been set at $5,000. He is scheduled to be in court on July 23.
In Nashville he faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, failure to report an accident, driving without a license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He also faces a host of previous charges in Catoosa County, including disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, theft, and leaving the scene of another accident in which he was allegedly driving without a license.
