St. Jude's to give away new hom | Local headline
St. Jude Hospital patients and their families recently joined representations of Headrick Construction and Homebuilding, Callaway Farms subdivision, Catoosa County Cham-ber of Commerce, WUSY US-101 and WDEF-News12, in a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the north Georgia St. Jude “Dream Home.”
Headrick Construction and Homebuilding is overseeing construction of the St. Jude “Dream Home” on a lot donated by the Callaway Farms subdivision in Ringgold. The St. Jude “Dream Home” will be valued at about $235,000, and all the proceeds from the St. Jude Dream Home Give-Away will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A limited number of tickets to win the St. Jude “Dream Home” and other prizes will go on sale for $100 each in mid-July. The house will be given away during a live St. Jude Dream Home telethon on WDEF-Channel 12 on Oct. 27, 2001.
“Dream Home has been very successful as a fund-raiser for St. Jude Hospital throughout the country,” said Phillip Deal, a local representative for American Lebanese Syrian Asso-ciation Charities, the fund raising arm of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. “We look forward to making some dreams come true for a lucky winner, as well as the children of St. Jude Hos-pital.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee, was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962. The hospital is an internationally recognized biomedical research center dedicated to finding cures for catastrophic diseases of childhood and has treated more than 17,000 children. The hospital’s work is primarily supported through events like the St. Jude “Dream Home” promotion.
All St. Jude patients are treated regardless of their ability to pay. ALSAC covers all costs of treatment beyond those reimbursed by third party insurers and total costs for families who have no insurance. More than 500 children from the Chattanooga and north Geor-gia area have benefited from and contributed to the research that will one day cure child-hood cancer.
