On Saturday, Aug. 5, more than 200 children and their parents congregated at Kids 4 Christ for the fourth annual Back 2 School Blast concert and cookout. Every school-age child in attendance got a free book bag and school supplies, while everyone enjoyed free food and live music performed by Reporting Rain.
Child Evangelism Fellowship provided free facepainting during the event. Kids also enjoyed jumping on a giant inflatable car and playing games to win extra school supplies.
According to Kids 4 Christ administrator Gail Marks, the Blast is a community effort.
Many businesses, churches and individuals come together to do this event for the kids every year, said Marks. Everyone who contributes realizes how important it is for kids to be excited about the new school year and have the tools they need to be successful in class.
Marks added that the annual Blast also gives families something fun they can do together, and provides parents with a chance to meet the staff at Kids 4 Christ or sign up their children for the expanded K4C after-school program.
Our primary goal is to tell children about Jesus, Marks said. But often the best way to meet a childs spiritual need is to first fill their physical needs, such as school supplies. Helping these little ones open their minds to a good education also opens their hearts to hear about God.
