A 29-year-old LaFayette man died last Wednesday night, May 23, from injuries suffered in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident.

James Robert Patterson was killed in the wreck, which happened on Shinbone Valley Road in the Center Post community of Walker County. Evidence at the scene revealed Patterson apparently lost control of the ATV in a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree.

He suffered severe head trauma.

According to reports, Patterson borrowed the ATV from a friend last Wednesday around 4 p.m. When he didn’t return home later, law enforcement and rescue personnel started searching for him.

Shortly after the search began, Deputy Tim Perkins located the victim on the right-of-way of Shinbone Valley Road.

The body was transported by the coroner to the state crime lab in Summerville for an autopsy
